James Dodds, VP TD Bank Group and Right To Play Champions Board member and Kevin Hawkins, Director IMAX Corporation along with Adam van Koeverden, Olympic Kayaker and Right To Play Athlete Ambassador, and four other brave climbers successfully reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro on November 12th, 2012 in support of Right To Play.
They faced days of rain, wind and below freezing temperatures, but remained focused and motivated and put one foot in front of the other to reach their goal. Not only did the team successfully summit, they also raised $130,000 for Right To Play programs in some of the most disadvantaged countries in the world. Through their focus and determination, both on and off the mountain, the team was able to educate 2,600 children and provide hope for the communities they live in. Following the 6 day climb, the team visited Right To Play programs in Dar es Salaam where they were able to see their support working first hand. The team visited primary schools where they played Right To Play games and met with the volunteer coaches and teachers. They also took part in a guest panel for an HIV/AIDS awareness community mobilization day and were treated to a cultural Tanzanian dance and celebration.
This couldn’t have been possible without the support of the climb’s generous sponsors: TD, SDI Marketing, Canada Goose, LUG, Totum Fitness, Mountain Equipment Co-op and Winners. And, of course the climbers, James Dodds, TD Bank Group, Jason Richter, Lugg, Danielle Gaudette, TD Bank Group, Kevin Hawkins, IMAX Corporation, Joanne Maislin, Maislin Consulting, Adam van Koeverden, Right To Play Athlete Ambassador and Jaime Wilson, Right To Play Deputy Director.
