Sigma Chi Leadership Institute Achieves Institutional Accreditation

LEARN ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERLEARN ABOUT THE SIGMA CHI LEADERSHIP INSTITUTEREAD ABOUT OUR HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENTSIGMA CHI IS THE FIRST AND ONLY FRATERNAL ORGANIZATION TO OFFER A LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE FOR ITS MEMBERS FROM
AN ACCREDITED INSTITUTION

The Sigma Chi International Fraternity is proud to announce that Sigma Chi Leadership Institute (SCLI) has become the first and only fraternal-affiliated organization to earn accreditation by an accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. As a result, Sigma Chi has become the first fraternity to offer members critical leadership skills through its revolutionary Transformational Leader program, developed and delivered by its own accredited institution, SCLI.SCLI achieved accreditation through the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Sigma Chi and SCLI worked together to develop the Transformational Leader program, along with well-respected experts in the fields of higher education, business, leadership development and fraternities. Throughout the training, members receive high-quality experiences delivered through an accredited institution that supplements their academic pursuits by providing them with cutting-edge, relevant skills and competencies — ranging from how to identify and focus on their core values, persist through adversity, lead and motivate peers through change and recognize character in others, among other skills.

“We’ve heard from employers that today’s college graduates lack critical leadership skills, including collaboration and sending and receiving feedback. We have addressed this critical need through the Transformational Leader program, which will teach our members the skills they need to become better leaders and people overall,” said Tim Sanderson, WESTERN 1985, Grand Consul (international president) of Sigma Chi International Fraternity. “Additionally, we know from surveys we’ve conducted with our alumni that our leadership programs were important in them receiving a promotion at work and contributed overall to growth in their career. Those insights inspired us to take our programs to the next level with the creation of our Transformational Leader curriculum that supplements our members’ academic pursuits with an accredited leadership and personal development experience.”

Sigma Chi invested more than five years of work and a significant financial commitment to invest in SCLI so the institution could develop the Transformational Leader program. The program’s designers used their experience and industry data to ensure the curriculum addresses areas of critical need in today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce. “We’re proud of this major accomplishment in being the first Greek-letter-affiliated organization to earn accreditation,” said Michael
Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982, chairman of Sigma Chi Leadership Institute.

“Our goal is to enhance the fraternal experience by improving our members’ life outcomes by teaching them valuable critical thinking and interpersonal skills that can be applied immediately to their daily lives and future careers.”Sigma Chi Leadership Institute’s board members who helped in leading the development of the Transformational Leader program range in expertise from CEOs and higher education thought leaders, while the professional staff includes doctoral-level analysts, researchers and instructors with decades of experience. For more information about the Sigma Chi Leadership Institute and the Transformational Leader program, visit leaders.sigmachi.org.
